Summer Solstice Blessing

Summer Solstice Blessing

Today the sun is at its highest place, only here in the northeast we can not see it because of all the rain. Here’s a way to bring some lightness into your day, especially if you are feeling gray. Pick or buy yourself some flowers, especially yellow ones, to represent the sun. Place them somewhere you will see them often through out the day. It could be your kitchen table, or if you keep an altar that is a great place. The idea is to see them often. When you pass them be reminded of the sun, your connection to joy and speak your intentions for the coming season. Summer is full of fresh food, fireflies, swimming and long days for squeezing in evening activities. The beauty in this is counter balanced by the intensity of heat, too much work and not enough play. You have the power to hold it all, like the beautiful balance of sun and moon. The flowers represent the sun! Your highest hopes..put them out there, speak them, sing them,. write them.

As the sun goes down tonight, gather petals from your flowers and add them to a bowl of water to sit outside (or on your window sill) to steep in the energy of the moon. Tomorrow morning, run yourself a bath and add this moon essence to your bath water. If that is not a possibility simply place your hands into the bowl and say to yourself “I will care for myself deeply through these long days of summer, balancing the joy and the intensity with both play and rest.”

Some cooling herbs for summer, delicious in iced tea, are mint, lemon balm, hibiscus and rose. The qualities of these plants assist our bodies in regulating themselves in the heat. In the “Herbalism Around the Wheel of the Year” class starting in September, we’ll balance ritual and practical medicine making in every class. Today is the last day for early bird discount! Call me if you have any last minute questions & keep your eye out for pop up events this summer. Here is the link to the events page, with more details Herbalism Around the Wheel!
